Folio 31. Lord Irwin, at Temple Newsham, to [Newcastle], that he had organised a search of Lord Fairfax's house and other principal houses in the neighbourhood, but no arms had been found. Gives details of defence precautions being taken in the county for defence against the rebels, and encloses a copy of the Pretender's answer (signed by Charles `Prince Regent at Holyrood House 30 Sept. 1745) to the letter sent to him by Gen. Guest in Edinburgh castle, in which Guest threatened to fire upon the city unless communications between it and the castle were reopened.
