Folio 46. Newcastle to the earl of Derby, acknowledging receipt of the address from Lancashire to the king, and enclosing a commission authorising him to raise men for service; provides latest accounts of the rebels' progress in the north, and the likelihood of their moving into Lancashire. Marshal Wade is being ordered to proceed with haste northwards towards Doncaster, then to apprehend the rebels wherever they may be. The duke of Cumberland had been ordered to send to England from Flanders an additional body of 6,000 troops. Transmits news of the French naval position at Brest as reported by Vice-Admiral Martin, and advises that preparations are being made at Dunkirk and Boulogne for an embarkation. However, the Channel is at present so well guarded that there should be no threat. The Austrian army in Bohemia had been again defeated by the king of Prussia.
