John Kendricke to Quarles. Contents of his letter of 10 January. Details of business since 7 January contained in enclosed copy of journal [missing]. Has received 3 letters from Quarles. Can find none of the coloured satins Quarles wants. His dealings with Bocurt are secret and he never deals with him on the Bourse, so no-one can suspect a connection between him and Kendricke. Has sold little cloth recently because of poor weather. Hopes if present wind continues trade will pick up then will clear stock, but there is no chance of increasing prices while others have good cloth unsold and would be unwise to wait until they have sold out, so will sell at customary prices. Has heard nothing of Wayring recently and thinks he will not proceed against him (Kendricke), but if he does, he can answer adequately. General trade matters. Financial transactions. Verhagen has not yet paid for his 25 cloths but promises to do so next week. Advises Quarles only to send cloth of a good quality - poor cloth only remains unsold, especially as so much arriving in Middleburg. Quarles's advice concerning florence and taffeta came too late - a couple of days before his letter arrived William Hinde bought all that was available in town. [Unfinished - end missing]. Dated at Middleburg.
