Lowe to Quarles. Contents of letter of 29 November. Has bartered 45 cloths since then - details. Financial transactions. Has received Quarles's letter of 8 November. Hopes commodities will fetch better prices than Quarles predicts - no-one has sent home better wares. General state of trade. Shortness of the cloths Quarles sends means no hope of disposing of the worst of them except by barter. Has received Quarles's financial instructions. It is hard to obtain money on bills of exchange at present and exchange rates are high. Has received Quarles's consent to his coming to England in the spring. Meanwhile he will try and sell as much of Quarles's cloth as possible. Hopes God will preserve Quarles from bankruptcy. Exchange rates. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
