Lowe to Quarles. Contents of letter of 19 November. Notes from Quarles's letters his desire for fustians. General discussion of trade prospects and prices. Success of the Turks is depressing trade. They are wintering in Hungary and will be able to take the field next year before the Emperor can rally forces to resist. Turks also reported to be intending to invade Calabria and duchy of Florence in spring. Few preparations yet in Germany - the princes would sooner let in the Turks and fight them than submit to the Emperor and the Spanish Inquisition. Lowe not sure whether needs extra cloth from Middleburg or not - depends on progress of war. Asks Quarles to send 100 cloths with first good weather. Has sold 40 cloths - details. Little chance of further sales until January. Financial matters. Exchange rate. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
