Lowe to Quarles. Contents of last letter. Since then has received all Quarles's cloth in good condition except a few damaged by salt water, but hopes to dry and press them and still be able to sell. No more than 300 cloths sold yet at lower prices than expected. Thinks prices depressed because Turkish army in Hungary so strong and all Germany in danger - people waiting for definite news before buying. Has sold 51 cloths himself, but his best customers not yet arrived. Other men selling at £19 per cloth and until they have sold their best Lowe unlikely to sell much, but expects to sell at £20 later. Asks Quarles to send 80 cloths in next fleet, but not too many light colours. Is sorry Quarles has bought so many cloths at long term and high prices, Lowe expects to make no profit on the last of them at end of season. General information on trade, requests various types and colours of cloth. Exchange rate. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
