Lowe to Quarles. Contents of letter of 28 June (kept until 3 July), which enclosed 5 patterns of feasant cloth for Quarles to match. Asked him to send 2 of each to Peter Vermeres of Emden for Steven Wolters, who wants them for Frankfurt - should be sent under a strange mark because the Company have banned all shipping for Stade and Emden until Michaelmas. The pena on appointed cloths 20s. each, on unappointed, 40s. Lowe had referred the sending of any more cloths to Quarles's consideration, though the lack of cloths could lead to lost sales. Financial details. Since then no sales because without feasants could not sell other cloths. Annoying that no ships due until mid August to serve Frankfurt and Leipzig markets, as Lowe could sell at least 200 cloths there - but sales will be better in winter if there is a shortage now - so asks Quarles to send 250 for winter - 5/6 of them feasants, rest light colours. Financial transactions since last letter. Exchange rate high and no takers for bills. Exchange rate. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
