Lowe to Quarles. Mentions letter of 3 April. Rest of fleet arrived 4 April. Sorry Quarles has only sent 140 cloths - too late to mend damage now. Send 200 next time. It has been ordered that after the next fleet there shall be no more until winter, whichthe Company thinks necessary to prevent fall in price of packcloth. Lowe thinks the Company court in London will confirm this and that the fleet will be despatched soon. Therefore most important Quarles has cloths ready to send. The Kent cloths not very good and poorly dressed but Lowe confident of selling at a good profit at show day (15 April). Details of sales to date. Cloth received in good condition except for 1 wrapper. Will try to sell no more until show day. Again urges Quarles to send 200 next time so as not to disappoint regular customers. Will continue to hold off from buying anything except madder. This very expensive and likely to become more so as little grown last year. Should be much cheaper next year but not until then, so should be safe to buy at high price now. Has therefore asked Verporten to buy some for him. The ingrossers who have cornered the market are trying to force up the price. All goods in Stade much more expensive as result of news of peace in France - details. Exchange rate. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
