Lowe to Quarles. Contents of letter of 4 February. John Verporten wants up to 40 cloths - asks Quarles to send them in the next Interloper for Stade or Hamburg so that they arrive before March. Advises using a stranger's mark and consigning to Verporten at Hamburg. Caution needed, shippers should not show it in Stade - if they do not, should be no danger of being caught. Verporten has agreed to pay market rate but price not yet agreed. Lowe recommends sending an additional 40 cloths as is sure he can sell them. Advises Quarles to send 250 cloths in next fleet for Stade. Price of madder still very high, little being grown and most of it already sold. Frost lifting and river will be clear in 3-4 days. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
