Lowe to Quarles. Contents of letter of 18 November. Repeats his views regarding types and colours of cloth Quarles should send. Some of the unsold cloths very bad - yellowed and also very thin. James Winche's cloths generally short and poor quality, so hard to sell. Unless he improves, better not to buy from him. Reiterates there is a good market for fine cloth at the right price in popular colours. As things stand, other men taking his markets. Has sold 7 cloths since last letter. The Company [of Merchant Venturers] here have again chosen Quarles as Treasurer and Assistant for next Easter's market - unless Quarles comes over or provides a good excuse for not doing so, they will fine him £50. Mr. Ferrers is standing Deputy at a stipend of £200 p.a. He is to have an assistant. Mr. Tho. Church, M.A., who was Sir Philip Sidney's tutor, is one candidate. Exchange rate. Dated at Stade [near Hamburg].
