Petition to parliament from the inhabitants of the nine parishes in the east end of Stirlingshire against the quartering on them of the troop commanded by Colonel Erskine of Scottscraig. The petitioners claim to have been already subjected to 'exorbitent and inorderlie' quartering, and now to have had Colonel Erskine's troop billeted on them 'for the most pairt since they were leaviet'. Since they are informed that parliament intends to continue this arrangement, they point out that the other parishes in the shire, which have been less heavily burdened, are better able than themselves to provide grass for the troop's horses. They therefore ask that a warrant should be issued to the colonel and the Stirlingshire committee of war to quarter his troops elsewhere. [Followed by] Two notes [in different hands]: (1) The petition was read and remitted by parliament to the committee of estates, 7 August 1649. (2) 'Petition from the [...] Stirlingshire', 7 August 1649.
