(i) Petition to the lords of council and session by John Maxwell, following the decree in his favour against Lord Herries. [cf. f.71-77]. Since he is a poor gentleman, and has been forced to borrow money to meet the expenses of obtaining decrees from the council, he asks for an increased grant towards his costs, and an order to Mr. John Hay, 'clerk of the said proces', to give him a copy of the [amended] decree. [Signed]: R. gairdnar. [1594]. (ii) [Endorsed, in different hand]: The lords grant £20 more, and instruct Hay to alter the decree accordingly and to deliver the 'autentik extratt thairof' to Maxwell. [Signed]: Menmuir [? John Lindsay, parson of Menmuir and sometimes styled Lord Menmuir]. ['Montgomery' is the 2nd signatory]. Edinburgh, 30 July 1594
