Documents concerning legal proceedings: John Viccars against several debtors. (ff.103-106): (i) Royal order to Andrew Purves and [blank], sheriffs in hac parte. John Viccars, servant to Samuel Burnet, merchant, burgess of Edinburgh, has not received the following amounts owing to him for 'aell and drink' up to 10 October 1606: From Alexander Fairlie of Braid: £110. 16s. 8d. From Frances, relict of 'Ewstachius' Roothe: £119. 16s. 8d. From Robert Hog, baillie of the Potterrow, and 'Geillis' his wife: £66. From John Young of Duddingston: £37. 10s. The sheriff is to summon all the alleged debtors to appear before the lords of council and session on 10 ['July' crossed through] June. [Signed]: James. Jo. Ainslie. 'Tertio Junij 1607'Seal. Notarial sign. Edinburgh, 2 June 1607. (ii) Note [in different hand] that as the summons is referred to the defenders' oaths [? of verity] the lords of council and session have assigned [blank] for a further hearing. [Endorsed]: 1. By the sheriff. On 3 June he personally summoned Alexander Fairlie and Robert Hog and his wife [her name in different hand, in margin], and left copies of the summons at the dwellingplaces of John Young and Frances [name of her former husband in margin, in same hand as previous insertion]. Five witnesses [named], including a servant of Robert Gairdnar, writer [cf. f.71], to his actions. Seal. 2. [In different hand]: 'Vicars contra Fairlie, [? act]'. 11 [?June/July 1607]
