(i) Bond for debt by Sir Patrick Chirnesyde of East Nisbet to George Home of [? Cranmycomb]. The debtor binds himself to pay £240 Scots to Home by 11 November next. His surety is Philip Nisbet of 'Suansfield' [? Stuartsfield]. He also agrees to pay £20 'expenses' in case of default. The transaction is to be registered in the books of council, commissary's books of Lauder, or the sheriff's court books of Berwick. Chirnesyde and his surety appoint [blank] as procurators. The writer of the document is Timothy Routhlaw, notary. Witnesses: Master David Home, minister at Greenlaw, Routhlaw and 'Patrick Cokburne my servitor'. [Signed by] David Home, Routhlaw and Chirnesyde. East Nisbet, 2 April 1606 and undated. (ii) [Endorsed]: Several jottings [in three different hands]: 1. Note, in first person, that Chirnesyde's procurator consents to registration in the books of council. [Signed] [? Humphrey] Levingstoun. Edinburgh, [?3] May 1608. (iii) 2. Names of parties; date of registration of the bond. Latin. 31 May [?1608]. (iv) 3. Names of parties to the suit. Chirnesyde is referred to as laird of East Nisbet. The obligation was registered on 31 May 1608. 2 April 1606
