Documents concerning legal proceedings: Archibald Inglis and others against Robert Lumsden. (ff. 81-84): Extract from the act book of the lords of council and session. The names of fifteen councillors are given, with their offices in almost all cases, beginning with John [Graham], earl of Montrose, chancellor of the realm, and Alexander [Seton], Lord Fyvie, president. A suit has been brought by Lady Jean Fleming, countess of Cassillis, as 'commitfear' [owner of a fee-simple of a property, as opposed to the life-renter] or life-renter of property later specified, and John [Kennedy], earl of Cassillis, her husband, against William Wadderat, John Dyxon, James Cranston, James Dyxon and Abraham Home, tenants and occupiers of land in Lauder, Haddington and other places. The countess, in accordance with the relevant act of parliament, ordered the tenants to leave the property by Whit Sunday 1601. They have refused to do so or to appear when summoned before the lords, although the earl and countess were represented by Master Alexander Thomson, their procurator. The lords have therefore issued a new order of removal, since the defenders have shown no reasonable cause to the contrary. [Signed]: Joannes Skene. [Endorsed, in different hand]: 'Lady Casselis removing [? contra] dyvers Tennentis of abbay steidis ... [illegible word] 1601'.
