A suit has been begun by Walter Ross Johnson of Tain [cf. ff.56, 57] against George Ross of Balnagowan, Alexander Ross, Thomassone Wricht of Kincardine and three other defenders [named], charging them with having violently and illegally evicted him from his land in the 'kirktoun' of Kincardine in the earldom of Toss and sheriffdom of Inverness, which he has held as takman [taxman] with tenure of some years yet to run, and having withheld from him all its annual profits.
