Documents concerning legal proceedings: John Anderson of Dunfermline against Bessie Paulle [née Cairns] and George Bickerton (Bikartoun) (ff. 59-69): (i) Royal order to [blank], sheriffs in hac parte. The lords of council and session have assigned 24 July for a further hearing. The recipients are to summon ten witnesses [named] and two others [names added in different hand] to attend. [Signed]: James. J. Hay. Seal. Notarial sign. Edinburgh, 7 July 1593. (ii) Marginal note [in different hand]: 'Partibus ut [? mat]'. [? 17] November is assigned for a further hearing. [Endorsed by] William Thall [? Thrall], messenger. On 19 July he personally summoned eleven of the twelve witnesses [one of the two names added on f.65r. crossed through] to appear. Three witnesses [named] to his action. Seal said to be affixed, now missing. [Followed by] Note [in different hand]: Names of parties to the suit. 25 July 1593
