Case of Robert ap Gwyllim and Eleanor his wife of Llangarren, Heref., plaintiffs, and Edward Maynston of Heref., defendant. Bill of Edward Maynston to the Council in the Marches. Lands called Bernythen in lordship of Irchenfield have descended in his family since reign of Richard II. Defendant claims rightful possession by inheritance from his father, Roger Maynston. Roger's widow Jane [see f.8] has wrongfully entered property. Rees ap Gwyllim and his wife Eleanor, claimed by defendant to be no parties in dispute, 'last June' put in bill to stay proceedings. Defendant accuses them of conspiracy with Jane Maynston to defraud him. Asks that Council should order suit to proceed. Endorsement: dated Ludlow 10 September 1551, instructing steward to proceed with hearing. Signed by Jo. Pollard, Ro. Townshend, Griff. Leyson.
