Petition of Richard Shakerly, master of the Gift of Topsham, that he was forced into the Royalist port of Falmouth by bad weather in 1645 and had to pay £167 and give up his guns before he was allowed to leave, and that when he left, his ship was seized by Capt. Mildmay for the Parliament, and condemned as a prize, but has since been returned to him, much damaged. Asks that he may receive compensation and have his guns and appurtenances returned. Copy. Enclosed: Report of the Committee of the Admiralty on the circumstances of the taking of the Gift (renamed Kentish frigate) by Capt. Mildmay and recommendation for her return to Richard Shakerly: 24 Sept. 1646. Copy. Receipt of John Tresahay of Pendennis Castle for guns and ammunition removed from the Gift: 2 Jan. 1645. Memorandum by John Martin that Richard Shakerly paid £167 to the King's party to free his ship in Falmouth: 25 Apr. 1646.
