John Johnson to Anthony Cave : regrets misunderstanding over the Spanish voyage: business at Callais, prices of fells and wool sold to the Hollanders, etc.; he has lost as much this year as he did last year by the exchange: hopes Cave will continue to use him to have his money home; he has as good a will as the other friends Cave wrote he would try, though perhaps his power is not as great: the bad state of trade; state of the exchange. Numbers in the Tower increase, but Lord Pagett is not among them. The Council have told the Lord Mayor Somerset was planning to seize the King and the Great Seal, fortify the Isle of Wight, make an insurrection and plunder the rich men of London. Asks for as many good young sheep as Cave can spare, for he wishes to amend his breed; thanks for pigeons, etc.; London; 21 Oct. 1551; Copy.
