Contains government gazettes from dependent territories. Government gazettes were the official newspapers produced by most colonies and later dominions and dependent territories, and commonly contain minutes and proclamations by the governor or commissioner, notices of appointments, the text of ordinances and government notices. Also usually included are advertisements of trade marks, calls for tenders and statistical reports.

Most gazettes are indexed by name and subject, and include information on a variety of subjects, such as the government of the territory, its topography, economy, internal and external communications, public health matters, public order and law enforcement, and the local ecology.

Under colonial regulations instituted in 1837, government gazettes were sent twice a year to the Colonial Office and its successors in London. The regulations clarified procedure, but government gazettes had been produced before this date.
