Description

Colonial Office. Disposal of balances of the St. Vincent Roads and Land Settlement Fund: purchase of Union Island; administrative reorganisation of the St. Vincent Grenadines (Union, Mayreau, and Canouan Islands); purchase of land at Sandy Bay, St. Vincent, for resettlement of Caribs.

[The purchase of Union Island would, it was thought, 'release ... its inhabitants from a condition of affairs for a parallel to which we should have to search the Middle Ages'].
