This series contains official, semi-official and private correspondence and papers of the Hon Henry Manvers Pierrepont relating to his diplomatic missions to Sweden from 1804 to 1807 and again, on a special mission, in the latter year; also an entry book of official correspondence with the Foreign Office, February to June 1807, of Alexander Straton, the intervening envoy.

The Hon. Henry Manvers Pierrepoint was born on the 18th March 1780, the third son of Charles Medows (later Pierrepoint) 1st Earl Manvers and Anne Orton. From 1802-1804 he was a Private Secretary in the Foreign Office, and he then entered the Diplomatic Service. In 1804 he was appointed as Minister to Sweden, where he remained until 1807. Later that year he returned on a special mission. He married in 1818 Sophia daughter of the 1st Marquess of Exeter. He died on 10 November 1851.
