This series contains general correspondence and miscellanea from the British legation and consulate in Iceland. Comprises a purchasing agreement and miscellaneous correspondence, 1916 to 1919; papers relating to the occupation of Iceland in 1940; and a file dealing with shipping arrests, etc., 1943.
After 1918 Iceland, although an independent kingdom, continued to have the same sovereign as Denmark and diplomatic relations continued to be conducted through Copenhagen until 1940. Then following the German invasion of Denmark and the British occupation of Iceland, a legation was established at Reykjavik. Iceland became fully independent in 1944.
