Marquess Curzon of Kedleston was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from June 1895 to October 1898, and acted as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from January 1919, during the absence of Mr. Balfour (later the Earl of Balfour) at the Peace Conference in Paris, and was appointed to that office in October 1919.
