The Economic Policy (Manpower) Division was set up in 1970, following the establishment of the Department of Employment. The division later became part of a larger unit known as Employment Policy and Manpower, which also contained the Industrial Relations Division and Manpower General Division. By 1974 the division was organised into three branches, A, B, C and D, which were responsible for regional and local employment; queries relating to redundancy and superannuation arising from war service; relations with the MSC, the Training Services Agency and the Employment Services Agency; and the European Social Fund respectively.
