Folio 168: Stormont to Weymouth. La Motte-Piquet, with 3 ships-of-the-line and 4 frigates, has orders to convoy American and French ships from Nantes part of the way to America. He gives details of the ships involved. The Amphitrite, now called the Ranger, is to join the convoy and take any prizes to Spain. A treaty between France and the rebels has actually been signed. It is a commercial treaty. He gives details. Franklin has been authorised to open a loan of 2 million sterling on the account of `the United States, as they call themselves'.
