Folio 196: Stormont to Weymouth. He believes that Aranda has urged Vergennes that now was opportunity for France and Spain to take revenge for the last war and openly to assist the rebels and either declare war or act in such a way as to force Britain to do so. Maurepas said this had no effect. His policy remains `insidious but not openly hostile'.
