Folio 103: Stormont to Weymouth. He gave Vergennes a copy of the King's Speech. Vergennes agreed to a British warship coming to convoy the 2 ships. Stormont then told him of the treatment of the Morrison family, of the behaviour of the authorities in Martinique towards the Hawke and about the report from Brewer. He pointed out that allowing the rebels' ships to remain in French ports was contrary to the solemn promises and orders of the king of France. Vergennes expressed concern and surprise. Stormont encloses f.107. He then saw Maurepas and covered the same points. Maurepas said that the rebel officers strutting round Paris in uniform had been ordered to remove the uniforms and they had left Paris.
Date and place: 1777 Nov 26 Paris.
