Folio 104: Stormont to Weymouth. Franklin and Deane are disillusioned with the French government, which encouraged them to declare independence. Franklin may go elsewhere. He is to ask the government the direct question; what help can the Americans expect, if the war goes on? The rebels are upset at du Chaffault's orders, punctually carried out, to keep their privateers away from the French coast. He mentions La Fargue [f.64].
Date and place: 1777 Sept 24 Paris.
