Folio 96: Stormont to Weymouth. Negotiations between Spain and Portugal for a treaty are advanced, Portugal is to give up all rights to the colony of St. Sacrement, Spain is to return the island of St. Catherine. The river of San Pedro is to become an invariable boundary. The visit to Spain of the queen dowager is to propose the marriage of the king of Spain to the princess of Portugal, as the best means of separating Portugal from Britain. St. Germain has at last resigned, to be succeeded by prince Montbarey.
Date and place: 1777 Sept 25 Paris.
