Folio 92: Stormont to Weymouth. He reports on how he informed Maurepas of the commissioning of the 6 ships of the line, as instructed in f.70. Maurepas seemed pleased that Britain had not ordered a larger armament and said that there were now no privateers in French ports. He said that Spain had no intention of sending more ships to the West Indies. Stormont comments on Maurepas' character and, although he wants peace, he may not be able to preserve it.
Date and place: 1777 Sept 24 Paris.
