Folio 23: Stormont to Weymouth. Information Weymouth has received about French forces in the East Indies is erroneous. The regiments Clare and Picardy are not there. Picardy is in Corsica. In Mauritius there are 4 regiments amounting to 4,000 men, called the Régiments des Isles. A doubtful source gives 2,300 troops in Pondicherry. The ships employed for the East India trade are constructed so as to serve occasionally as war-ships.
Date and place: 1777 Sept 3 Paris.
