Folio 191: Stormont to Weymouth. La Fayette, in spite of British cruisers, has arrived at Portsmouth, New Hampshire with the rank of major general. Alone among foreign ministers, the Bavarian minister, count d'Eych, has invited Franklin to dinner several times. Theabbé Nicolé helps him and brings him gossip. The rebels have ordered 40,000 uniforms in Paris. He describes them. He adds that La Fayette may not have arrived.
