Folio 171: Stormont to Weymouth. He discussed with Vergennes and Maurepas the lack of response from Spain to the memorial sent by Vergennes [see f.142]. Vergennes said permission for La Fayette to sail had come from the duc d'Ayen. He discussed Broglie with Vergennes and the many ministers, who take advantage of Maurepas' `unsteadiness' by acting independently. More about Spanish naval activity.
