Folio 260: Stormont to Weymouth. He is sure that Maurepas will never make the proposal, now that Britain is winning in America [? see f.164]. He knows nothing about Longvilliers. Franklin is staying with his friend Chaumont. Deane has received large sums of money from England. Maurepas is hurt that Noailles has had no reply about Macnamara. Stormont has to counteract the activities of those, who spread the idea that Britain is determined to begin or to provoke a war.
