Folio 257: Extract from letter from Constantinople. The deposed vizir is accused by the grand seigneur of not carrying out orders. The new vizir has begun a strict administration of economic affairs and has already hung some butchers and bakers. He has treated withhaughtiness the high officers of state. Turkey has allowed 5 Russian frigates to carry merchandise for sale in Constantinople but the armed frigate escorting them, while allowed into other Turkish ports, could not enter Constantinople. The government continues to allow passage into the Black Sea.
