Folio 154: Stormont to Weymouth. He reports on a long talk with Maurepas. Maurepas said any trading with the rebels was unauthorised and without the knowledge of the government. Stormont quoted evidence of a regular plan for supplying the rebels. He said he was certain that quantities of ammunition were carried on every ship and that, whether the rebels obtained them in France or St Domingo, it was damaging to Britain. Maurepas said he would try to remove Britain's fears and that he and the king desired peace. The king would never be the aggressor.
