Folio 237: Vice-admiral [John] Montagu to lord George Germain. He reports an incident, when a British ship carrying officers to Newfoundland from Halifax was forced into St. Pierre, where the captain of an American privateer tried to take them prisoner. The French governor forbad this but he suspects close relations between St. Pierre and the rebels.
Date and place: 1776 Nov 12 HMS Romney Spithead.
