Folio 233: Stormont to Weymouth. Coudray is thought to be going to Boston to organise its defences. Beaumarchais is providing a large consignment of artillery and ammunition to be shipped from Havre de Grâce,, probably only on American or French vessels, cleared for the French islands. There is recruiting of French half-pay officers by Deane and French consternation at the taking of New York. Stormont is betraying no suspicion of the secret machinations of the French court.
Date and place: 1776 Nov 13 Fontainebleau.
