Description

Folio 62: Stormont to Weymouth. The meeting of the committee of the Conseil to consider the sending of French warships to join the Spanish fleet has been put off in order to consult the controller general. Orders were sent to Brest to arm 6 ships of the line and 4frigates, which are to be ready to sail at a moment's notice. The navy is to be organised into 3 divisions, Toulon under Estaing, Brest and Rochefort under the comte de Roquefeuille and the remainder under du Chaffault. The government is confident of a 50 million livres loan by the Spring but he has no details.
