Folio 59: Stormont to Weymouth. In spite of Stormont's candid professions for peace, Aranda and others are putting it about that Britain is behind Pombal's intransigeance. It is also said that Pombal believes that Grimaldi is eager for War. A number of mortars have been shipped to Brest, brought down the Seine past Stormont's garden. There are 14 American vessels at Bordeaux. The French merchants avoid risk by the money being deposited in London. The controller general is dangerously ill. There are 8 or more American ships in Nantes.
