Folio 238: Stormont to Weymouth. He reports on the court `more than ever a scene of faction, cabal and intrigue'. The queen seeks to undermine the credit of Maurepas and heads the Choiseul party. But the king and Monsieur dislike Choiseul. Artois sides with the queen. St. Germain is widely unpopular. Stormont lists his various measures, which have brought this about, including the appointment of Maillebois. The Choiseul party wish Castries to succeed him. Clugny will soon go. Turgot's edicts, including that abolishing the corvée may not stand. The queen's part in the recall of Aiguillon is discussed.
