Folio 156: Stormont to Weymouth. Vergennes has told him that the king of France will agree to the joint mediation of England and France in a congress in Paris, if Portugal require it in the usual manner and if Spain agrees. Stormont said that Portugal would not want the congress to be held Madrid, because of Pombal's feelings towards Grimaldi. Vergennes thought that the king of Spain might prefer Madrid.
