Folio 235: W. Davis and J. Hogben, collector and comptroller at Rye, to the commissioners of customs. They confirm the boarding of the Louis le Fortuné by country people, who stole clothing and money, and who cut and destroyed the running rigging. The agent and dragoons arrived too late and the captain would not recognise the pillagers. They then guarded and helped to unload the goods from the ship.
Date and place: 1775 Dec 16 Custom House Rye.
