Folio 205: Stormont to Weymouth. He is not so credulous as to believe that the French court does not connive at help for the Americans by turning a blind eye. Officially he accepts its assurances. The present administration wishes Britain success but hopes it will cost her dear. If Choiseul were recalled, he would send a large force. The king has the highest regard for Maurepas. Turgot's edicts, except that suppressing the corvée, are suspended. He wanted them registered at a lit de justice but was overruled by Maurepas.
