Folio 25: St. Paul to Rochford. He does not believe that Choiseul saw the queen in private or that he went to Versailles or Choisy. There is no immediate danger of him coming to power as the king and Monsieur are averse to him and because the support for him by the queen would mean Austrian influence over his policies. He mentions names of possible successor to du Muy. Castries is the most likely but Turgot wishes to examine the finances of the war office before an appointment is made. St. Paul has evidence that the French court is supplying warlike stores to America but he does not trust it. He welcomes the return of Stormont.
Date and place: 1775 Oct 18 Paris.
