Folio 286: St. Paul to Rochford. Nothing of note. Vergennes referred to Pombal's inability sometimes to perform what he promised. The Prussian minister has had long conversations with Vergennes, noone knows the reason. St. Paul will try to find out the contents of an urgent dispatch from Sweden for the ambassador. Grimm has come as minister from the duke of Saxe Gotha and will shortly be named minister for the duke of Saxe Weimar. Monsieur and Madame set out for Chambéry under the name of Alençon not Vend"me. The Algiers fiasco may cause the fall of Grimaldi. The name of O'Reilly is odious in Madrid. Maurepas in in high favour but the court is full of intrigues, only Du Muy stands his own ground. Vergennes and Sartine act under Maurepas' influence. Malesherbes and Turgot go hand in hand. Turgot's difficulties continue.
