Folio 259: O'Hara to Dartmouth. The ship Racehorse - Captain Orrock - and the sloop Carcase have arrived with Dartmouth's letter. They are making contact with French ships arriving at Portendie. O'Hara replies to criticisms of his conduct. He makes clear that the French are infringing Britain's rights in all kinds of small ways. They have no right to a settlement at Albreda and, if allowed to trade freely, would drive out the British traders as their goods are superior and they can out-bid the British for buying slaves and goods. O'Hara complains that he has never received clear instructions and has no means of enforcing British rights.
Date and place: 1775 June 20 Fort Lewis Senegal.
