Folio 192: St. Paul to Rochford. He wrote an explanatory letter to Vergennes, which gave him satisfaction and the affair of miss Plunkett is likely soon to be settled [see ff.112,126]. He discussed with Vergennes the Spanish expedition against Algiers. He encloses intelligence from Marseille [ff.196, 198]. Aranda says he knows nothing of it. Some believe Algiers is not the objective. St. Paul reports on 6 battalions to relieve troops in the West Indies. The duc de Chârtres is to visit the West Indies. Aiguillon will soon be allowed to return to Paris. Malesherbes succeeds La Vrillière. The comte d'Eu has died and his great landed inheritance devolves to the king.
